Das Zeichen 32 entspricht dem üblichen Leerzeichen.
Ein normaler über die »Return«- bzw. »Enter«-Taste eingegebener harter Zeilenumbruch besteht aus den zwei Zeichen CR (ASCII-Wert 13) und LF (ASCII-Wert 10). Dies hat historische Gründe: bei elektrischen Schreibmaschinen geschah der Zeilenumbruch, indem die Gummi-Walze zuerst in die Ausgangs-Stellung zurückgefahren wurde (daher die Bezeichnung »Wagenrücklauf« bzw. »Carriage Return«) und dann in einem zweiten Schritt um einen Zeilenabstand vorgedreht wurde.
